Welcome to my blog, my name is Derek. Let me tell you a little bit about me. First, and most recently, I’m the author of a memoir about our first year of marriage. My book is called The Joys of Marriage. More on that below. I am the marketing manager of a Christian retail store in Canada. I’ve worked in the Christian book industry for more than seven years and in spite of the struggles the retail end of the industry has faced recently, I love my job.

This is my personal blog. It is mostly about exploring the Christian faith. The title “Covenant of Love” is found in many places in the scriptures, in particular Daniel 9:4 NIV. It communicates God’s faithfulness and determination to his master plan. I consider myself “postconservative” which means that I believe that all of our traditions, including the Reformed tradition, should be open to revision in light of the further biblical insight and reflection. And “Already but Not Yet” is a theological concept denoting the tension of how Christ’ past work guarantees the future which in turn breaks into the present.

I write about 2 to 3 post a week not including daily provocative quotes and status updates. Typically at least one or more of those posts is designed to generate thoughtful discussions following the main theme of the blog. Make sure to subscribe by RSS or email so that you don’t miss my latest posts.

Because books are a big part of my life, book reviews are a big part of this blog. I do accept requests to review books, and on occasion, interview authors. If you’ve written a book and would like me to review it or if you would like to be interviewed on this blog, visit this page.

If you’re new to my blog, here is a list of some of my top posts for your perusal. These posts will give you an idea of who I am, how I write and where I’m coming from.

Bible Floss is an info-junkies YouTube channel for Christians. It caters to an evangelical audience but it specializes in the spectrum of evangelical beliefs; presenting the different views held by evangelicals to allow Christians to both further understand their view, as well as introduce options held by other evangelicals. The goal here is to educate Christians so that they can make educated decisions about their beliefs.

This is a non-preachie, quality faith-based channel modelled after popular channels such as TedTalks, Vsauce, Mental Floss and Minute Physics.

I was raised in a just-above poverty level household with divorced and remarried parents and many siblings. After we became Christians my family established roots in a Pentecostal Church. In time I would attend a Bible College associated with our denomination, spend a brief stint as a pastor-intern and many years in church leadership with responsibilities that ranged from cleaning toilets to preaching.

In 2005 I was hired as a sales associate for a large Christian bookstore chain in Canada. Two years later when the chain down-sized from twenty-seven stores to only three or four, new ownership took over my location and I was promoted to marketing manager where I have remained since.

In 2007 I married the most wonderful woman, Yecenia, and recently we’ve purchased our first home. We have a beautiful little girl born to us early in 2013 – Emilia Joy. At the star of 2014 I published a book called The Joys of Marriage: Surviving the First Year of Marriage (With Joy). You can purchase the paperback here, and the Kindle version here. If you do purchase a copy, would you do me the honour of reviewing it on Amazon?

Presently I serve on the board of a Nazarene church where I hold a local ministers license, am the youth leader and preach fairly regularly. I also served on the board of Project-X between 2010-2012 which is a Youth Concert Event held annually in Leamington Ontario. Project-X has brought in such artists as Leeland, KJ52, Downhere, The Almost and Jars of Clay.

As far as my interests goes I have been studying Classical Civilizations at the University of Windsor on and off since 2007, time and finances permitting. I play guitar, read, write, have a cat named Mimi, and enjoy fishing and going to the movies.

Some of the links on this site are affiliates. Basically, this means that if you were to click-through my site to, say, Amazon to purchase a book, I’d get a few pennies out of the deal (thanks, btw!).

I am Canadian, which is to say that I’m not sure how U.S. laws about blogging and affiliate links affect me. But I figured, better safe than sorry. Thank you sir!

  • School administrator

Derek – So, if you were a school administrator at a Christian School and you wanted to develop a plan to teach staff and students about cultural sensitivity from a biblical perspective, who would you recommend as a consultant to help us with this

    • http://covenantoflove.net/ Derek Ouellette

I don’t understand the context of your question.

  • School administrator

I’ve read your response to John Piper’s book and I am a school administrator looking for someone with a biblical worldview that can consult our school on the development of a diversity plan.
I thought you might know an organization or person that could help with this.
